World Peace, a bad thing???

I get a kick out of Yahoo Answers. If you aren’t on that site, I suggest you check it out. It’s a brilliant concept, I promise.

Today, I posted this question:

Do you think there is hope for a unifying world religion some day?

(Or is the need to be right as a culture stronger than the desire to get along with other cultures? You can’t all be TOTALLY right, you know.)

Yeah, I know that I could have phrased it better. I did add “details” if you clicked on the link-a better question would have been something like…”Can we just get over it and get along” or something, I don’t know.

Within the hour after posting, I received a majority of answers like:

“I hope not. Then we will all be a the mercy of whoever is running that religion”

“That is exactly what the anti-Christ will do.”

“Be careful what you hope for……. scripture describes just what you are talking about….. and I can tell ya one thing, when it does happen, you are NOT gonna like it !!!!! go in peace………. God bless”

After that point, I figured it was a good idea to post a more clarifying question:

World Peace?

This question didn’t receive the initial draw as the first one, but I did receive 11 answers so far. One of my favorites, if you’ll notice if you clicked on the link, accuses me of supporting Satan.

Oh MY.

I will get into my thoughts concerning this after dinner, but for anyone out there, what are your opinions on any of this? Is world peace an impossibility because many people actually view getting along as a negative thing based on a biblical prophecy?

  1. there is no “religion” that can unify people… religion can ONLY divide… if your religion is contributing to the destruction of the planet and man… then your religion WILL BE DAMNED BY GOD HIMSELF!

no religion can unify… but true understanding of God, morality, creation/evolution, life/death… those things can unify, IF THEY ARE BASED IN REALITY!

try a couple of logical tests, if you want to verify your religion…

    1) a child is born to a couple that is crashed on a deserted island… before the child is old enough to speak, his parents die, but he is able to survive, and ultimately lives out his entire life in solitude on the island, living in complete harmony with his environment, never committing anything that could be called an earthly sin… CAN THIS CHILD KNOW GOD? CAN THIS CHILD KNOW CHRIST?

the answer to the first question is yes… the answer to the second question is no! according to Christianity, this child will burn in hell!

people may call this an unfeasible scenario, even though it doesn’t matter… it still portrays an unreasonable, even horrific God…

but try this one, which is based completely in reality…

    2) the world is comprised of a multitude of nationalities, living in different regions, some isolated, some integrated… the people of these nations follow a multitude of different religions, some dating back to antiquity… these religions share many of the same basic moral and ethical tenets, but differ in their details, and in the consequences of belief or non-belief… the regions where these people live differ in the availability of education, dissemination of information, corruption of government and church officials, historical origins… ONE CANNOT SAY THAT ALL HAVE THE SAME CHANCE FOR THE SAME DISCOVERY OF RELIGION… in other words, people BORN (tabula rosa) in a Muslim or Hebrew nation have no chance of accepting the Christian faith, because it is not available to them…

the basic religious ideal says that there is ONE correct religion, and the choosers of the wrong faith will be damned…

how much of an insult to God is it, that we could believe that he is up there playing the lottery with our souls… picking a religion, by this viewpoint, is a total crapshoot! and it isn’t based on faith, it is based on INDOCTRINATION…

don’t believe me? try #3 on for size…

    3) Are you a Christian? if so, were you raised as a Muslim, but in time realized that Christianity was right?

i’ll answer that… HELL NO! Christians are indoctrinated from birth by Christian parents…

    BOTTOM LINE:

If Christians REALLY BELIEVED in the veracity of their faith, they would never speak of word of it to their children, KNOWING WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY THAT THEY WOULD FIND IT ON THEIR OWN!

otherwise, what you’re saying is… i don’t want my child to go to hell, so i have to educate them… problem is, that had to start somewhere, and it wasn’t with YOU, soooo…

DO YOU SEE THE PROBLEM YET?

If not… neither God nor any other deity can save your ignorant soul!

  2. Well hello…”Hand of God”. Thank you kindly for this passionate response.

As I mentioned, I shouldn’t have phrased the initial question the way I did. I did elaborate, and I hope you caught that.

In response to your beginning words, which were:
“there is no “religion” that can unify people… religion can ONLY divide… if your religion is contributing to the destruction of the planet and man… then your religion WILL BE DAMNED BY GOD HIMSELF!
no religion can unify… but true understanding of God, morality, creation/evolution, life/death… those things can unify, IF THEY ARE BASED IN REALITY!”

Alright, so you seem quite angry about this idea. Mind you, I’m not angry at all, just curious. I’m humble enough to look at any facts that can be provided. Which religion is contributing to the destruction of the planet? And, please forgive me here, I’m a bit confused–Are you saying that it IS possible for a global common ground to happen if we are all working toward a common goal that is based in reality? Because I’d agree with you if that is what you are saying.

You said: “the answer to the first question is yes… the answer to the second question is no! according to Christianity, this child will burn in hell!”

Okay, you only asked one question there, as far as I could see. However, you did bring up an interesting scenario in your next paragraph, concerning the child on an island.

I’m actually confused as to whether or not you are an atheist(as I am) or claiming to be God, or assuming that I subscribe to a destructive theology, or WHAT.

But kudos, your reply is totally feeling its feelings. Don’t assume, pass on facts and links if you have them, and calm down.

  3. I am always calm… and i believe very strongly in God… OF COURSE i am not claiming to be God (?????)… read the scenario of the child again… there WERE two questions… those are the two questions to which i was referring… “CAN THIS CHILD KNOW GOD?” Answer: yes… “CAN THIS CHILD KNOW CHRIST?” Answer: no!

I know this from experience, because I found God without religion… there can be no path to God through religion, because the only path to God must be a path of complete clarity, complete discovery… you cannot discover God through through teachings and brain-washing… NOT POSSIBLE! that is only a path to illusion… and there is no salvation in ignorance…

In the island example, according to Christianity, the child will burn in hell! There is no common sense in Christianity, and it IS contributing to the destruction of the world…

    HOW?

    1) Fanatical Christians are breeding and enlisting armies of converts in mass numbers in preparation for the rapture… first of all, this is contributing to the over-population, and over-population WILL INEVITABLY LEAD to famine, pestilence, war, geological calamities… so they are contributing to the destruction, and even CAUSING the conditions that correlate to the “rapture” that will confirm their religion… second, the very fact that a people would look forward to such an event with anticipation is VERY UNGODLIKE… they believe in a God of hypocrisy, and injustice… they believe in a God of naivete and ignorance…

    2) They are not only spreading ignorance, by propogating a belief system that WE KNOW historically was established as a means of controlling the masses, and uniting the strength of the church with the strength of the state in Europe, but they are also corrupting all scientific thought by allowing this kind of ignorant thought to continue 500 years later…

Christians are the joke of humanity… there can be no question… I am a humanitarian… I believe more strongly in our species than any person alive, I promise you! I will not sit idly buy and let religious fanatics destroy our planet… And when I face God in the afterlife, standing next to a Christian, God will have a lot of scathing questions for the Christian…

It is easy to make a case that Islamists are more humane than Christians… The whole premise behind Islam is that the Western world is poisoning the planet, and that salvation comes through killing them… needless to say, this is misguided… but it still has logical roots…

Trust me on this… if you wipe out the Western ideals, you do more good than harm… there can be no doubt about it…

I AM NOT A MUSLIM… I DO NOT SUPPORT MUSLIMS… so do not confuse this issue… I am just putting in perspective which religion is ultimately more destructive…

“Are you saying that it IS possible for a global common ground to happen if we are all working toward a common goal that is based in reality?”

Absolutely! And you can mark my words on this… it is an absolute certainty: 100 years from now, there will not be a single Christian on this planet… why? Ignorance can not survive that long in the face of reality, and we are going to be slapped hard by reality over the next 100 years (thanks largely to the spread of Christian ignorance)…

Many religions have come and gone during human history… every religion we hold today has its roots in some other past religion dating back to antiquity… religions come and go… God is eternal!

  4. Just to clarify one more thing… it is not only POSSIBLE for a global common ground to come about, and that this would forward global peace… it is an inevitability of human evolution…

Unfortunately, what makes it inevitable is another inevitability… that we are doomed to a period of horrendous self-destruction first… but the interesting thing about humans is that they do learn from their mistakes, though usually at a very great price… the greater the price, the more impressive the learning curve…

When we arise from this period, those who remain will carry a wisdom never before known to man… AND the age of religion (i.e. worshiping false idols) will be forever laid to rest…

  5. Hello again. Good morning to you. Thanks for clarifying some things for me, I do appreciate that.

I sense that you are a really smart person, and you’ve probably done a whole bunch of research to lead you to where you currently stand.

However, there are emotionally driven arguments and there are logically driven ones. And by argument, I mean healthy debate.

I didn’t ask the question on yahoo answers because I expected a solid answer. I just wanted a healthy debate. I didn’t expect to discover a key issue.

One key issue is a lack of intellectual humility. Coming from all sides-theistic or not-there is a ridiculously large number that feel a desperate desire to be one hundred percent correct.

It’s this big, emotional event for them. And they use LOTS OF CAPITALS and EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!!! And etc, etc. You simply are not excluded from this, even though I’m not in complete disagreement with everything you are saying.

All you’ve posted are your general-sometimes very general-opinions on things. If what you know is only based on what you believe, and you can not provide any information besides some hunch-that’s not a fact. That’s actually an opinion.

Most school systems cover ‘fact or opinion’ in the elementary classrooms. Its important to know how bias effects us, and often hurt us in society. I think you probably already know this, so forgive me having to mentioned it.

To me? “God” is a paradigm for what we haven’t scientifically figured out yet, and that’s all. And that’s my opinion, and its a very strong, solid feeling. Emotional, even. I’m not going to shove my ideals on you, though, as inarguable fact.

    For instance:

  6. Sorry, I’m not finished.

    You said:
“Christians are the joke of humanity… there can be no question… I am a humanitarian… I believe more strongly in our species than any personalive, I promise you!:”

Christians…are part of our species, a sizable part indeed? If they are the “joke” of humanity, then you are a jester retelling that joke in an even more contradictory light.

If you want to help anyone, be nice and love people, dude. All you are doing is ruthlessly judging and generalizing on my blog. Stop.

  7. I am providing you with important feedback on your question… important, because these issues are critical in our times… apparently you do not understand that…

Everything i have said is firmly entrenched in science… I am one of two people on this planet privvy to hard scientific information that corrects the current paradigm in the life sciences… i did not delve into hard science because 1) that is not the subject of this debate, and 2) to disclose that information before it is published would open it up to the possibility of being disseminated improperly…

I am passionate about these issues because the future of our planet is going to be bloody and brutal, and it is largely because of the hate and division spread by the world’s religions… this is not speculation, it is called historical momentum… the future is written by the past (historically) 100’s of years in the future… it is social human momentum… i am not some uneducated naive… i have a doctorate in psychology, and have an extensive background in physics and biochemistry…

The current paradigm in science is built on wrong principles, and yet our scientists continue to plow forward clumsily with experiments like penicillin and genetic engineering, without knowing the full ramifications of what they are doing, because they only understand 1.5% of what makes us alive…

Are you starting to get it? i am fully aware that the majority of individuals are neither intelligent enough nor open-minded enough to be able to grab on to new information and give it consideration… but i still have an obligation to seek out those who do… I posted here because i had hoped you were such a person, and because you have created a forum for discussion…

    I was clearly wrong…

I have lost patience with those who spread ignorance, because that is the plague of our time, and Fundamentalist Christians are the greatest propogators of ignorance on our planet… I have spent my life being overly patient and overly tolerant… but that will not change the planet… only pro-active, aggressive assault on ignorance will make a difference…

If i hurt feelings along the way, that does not matter… you are either part of the problem or part of the solution… there is no in between… if you don’t care about our species and would rather sit idly by, then you are not part of the solution…

Make a difference… stop worrying about sensitivity… ONLY TRUTH MATTERS!

  8. And by the way, God, too… is in this book… God is a thing of science, that CAN be understood…

But the biggest hurdle now, is not the availability of that information… it is, criminally, people’s unwillingness to accept that they do not know it all!

I do not claim to know it all… that is why I was able to accept the truth when undeniable evidence came before me… I never take knowledge for granted… but what i do know is critically important… and i will not be passive or apologetic about impressing it upon people…

If you are more worried about feelings than truth, than you are not my audience…

  9. Okay, alright.

    You said:

“But the biggest hurdle now, is not the availability of that information… it is, criminally, people’s unwillingness to accept that they do not know it all!”

Sounds a lot like what I said earlier on, which was:
“One key issue is a lack of intellectual humility. Coming from all sides-theistic or not-there is a ridiculously large number that feel a desperate desire to be one hundred percent correct.”

So, thanks for agreeing with me, if that’s what you are doing. And also, have a super day.
